Water is planned at roof-to-wall transitions, valleys, gutters, downspouts, deck ledgers, and the ground below. Directing runoff away from siding, doors, footings, and circulation routes is as important as keeping the seating area dry.

The best covered spaces balance shelter with openness. We consider daylight to adjacent rooms, glare, prevailing weather, privacy, airflow, furniture zones, and the path to stairs or the yard. Electrical and lighting provisions are easier to conceal when planned before framing and finishes. Screens or wind-control features can also affect post spacing and railing design.

It can. Projection, roof type, pitch, ceiling color, nearby windows, and orientation all affect interior daylight. Translucent systems may help in the right setting.
Can the space be screened later?
