Fasteners are a small portion of a premium deck budget, but they strongly influence appearance, movement, corrosion resistance and serviceability. Starborn provides coordinated fastening systems for PVC, composite, wood, fascia, ledgers and both wood and metal framing.
Available through Prestige: fastener selection, color and plug coordination, quantity takeoffs, material packages and professional installation.
Why Prestige features Starborn fasteners
Starborn’s deck portfolio includes CAP-TOR face screws, DECKFAST screws, color-matched HEADCOTE stainless screws, PRO PLUG systems, CLIP&RIP hidden clips, fascia fastening systems, structural screws, Smart-Bit tools and JOISTCOTE frame protection. The value lies in matching the specific fastener to the board, substrate and exposure.
- Color-matched face-fastening options for PVC and composite boards
- Plug systems designed to conceal approved screws
- Hidden clips for applicable grooved boards and framing types
- Fascia systems intended to manage attachment and board movement
- Structural and corrosion-resistant options for distinct deck applications
Where this system fits best
Starborn is relevant to nearly every detailed deck: picture frames, stairs, breaker boards, fascia, plugs, clips and exposed coastal fasteners all require different solutions. It is particularly valuable when a clean finish must be achieved without ignoring manufacturer movement requirements.
What we evaluate before specifying it
We identify decking brand and color, grooved or square profile, wood or metal framing, screw length, corrosion exposure, plug availability and manufacturer approval. Similar-looking screws are not automatically interchangeable; head geometry, thread design and material compatibility affect the finished board.
Installation details that affect performance
Predrilling, drive depth, edge distance and screw placement matter. Plug systems require the correct bit and matching plug orientation. Fascia must be allowed to move according to its manufacturer, and structural connections require fasteners with applicable published values—not ordinary deck screws.
Northwest Washington considerations
Moisture and salt exposure make fastener material especially important. Stainless grades may be appropriate where coated carbon-steel fasteners would be vulnerable, but stainless fasteners also require proper installation to avoid galling or head damage. Joist protection complements, rather than replaces, good flashing and drainage.
Common questions
Are plugs better than hidden clips?
They solve different details. Clips secure grooved field boards; plugs conceal face screws used at borders, stairs or other locations where clips cannot provide the required attachment.
Can any color-matched screw be used in PVC decking?
No. The screw must be compatible with the board and framing, and its head must seat without mushrooming or damaging the surface.
Why use a dedicated fascia system?
Fascia moves differently from framing. A system designed for fascia can provide controlled attachment and reduce buckling or fastener problems when installed correctly.
